C'mon, son

As I have mentioned before, I freaking love Psych.

Psych is one of my all time favorite TV shows, it makes me.... very happy.

And now that I have seen the final season and the final episode, I feel highly motivated to do a review on it.

Summary:

Shawn Spencer is an incredibly observant person who cons the police into thinking he's psychic. With the help of his best friend Burton Guster, and his ability to notice the tiniest details, Shawn opens a private detective agency and embeds himself into world of solving crimes, eating countless snacks, and making random pop-culture references.
(And I apologize for that excessively rubbish summary. I am bad at them.)

Apparently I love detective shows. I love Monk, and Numb3rs, Sherlock.... Psych.

I like the idea of good guys catching bad guys and sticking them in prison forever. It makes me happy inside.

So Psych is kind of a perfect show for me, because it combines hilarity, cleverness, character development, and detectives all into one.

Like my other review, I'm going to list the stuff I need to warn you about first.

1.) The occasional inappropriate scene. (But they are few and far between, one per season at most.)
2.) Sometimes the dialogue gets off-color.
3.) There are some gay references.
4.) Once in a while there is an impressive kiss scene.

But then we have the good...

In between the lines, there's a lot of obscurity,
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity
If I'm all right. Then you're all wrong.
Why bounce around to the same old song?
Who'd rather run when you can crawl?
I know, you know, that I'm not telling the truth,
I know, you know, they just don't have any proof.
Embrace the deception, learn how to bend.
Your worst inhibitions, they will PSYCH you out in the end.

1.) It's a detective show. With a pretend psychic who does this:

I'm having a vision.

Shawn is one of those characters you can't help but like. He's such an idiot, but he's so smart at the same time. Yes, he's insanely immature in the first couple seasons... but it's funny, so it's okay. He has a knack for getting out of intense situations and by being a weirdo. But he's brave, and he's loyal, and when he's not acting like a fool, he's really sweet. (He makes me laugh, so that always make me like people more.) He's aweeesome.

2.) It has a really awesome friendship stories.

3.) It's hilarious.

4.) Shawn and Gus grow up quite a bit... well, as much as their characters can grow up without changing.

5.) A likeable female lead (who holds her gun right and causes me do dance in delight).

She is so cute and spunky. She's brave and tough, but not in an annoying way. She's feminine, but not girly, and honestly, she is just so adorable. :)

6.) Lassie.

Lassie ended up being one of my favorite characters. He's just so awesome. And mean. And nice.

7.) Did I mention that the show is also hilarious?

8.) I won't mislead you though, in the first couple seasons especially, Shawn and Gus are less mature than my nieces.

But they grow up a bit.

9.) The friendship stories that develop and progress are really fun. They're nice friendships that come slowly and aren't forced.

10.) The finale was perfect. The last season was actually pretty perfect. (There was that one, random, Walking Dead episode that I did not understand, but was suitably creeped out by.) The final season was both mind-numbingly funny and bittersweet because it was Psych, but the whole season was kind of wrapping up the stories. AND EXCUSE ME, I HATE ENDINGS.

That being said, I'm not going to give any spoilers, but I will say that the last episode was probably one of my all-time favorite series finales. It didn't feel like an end so much as a new beginning, which left you hopeful. (Including a subtle Monk reference that I freaked out over.)
Everything that I wanted to happen in the finale happened, and the more I think about it, the more I like it.

I already own most of the series, but honestly, I'm planning on collecting them all.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate Psych a 10. It's one of my favorite shows. It's a comfort show. It's the show I go to when I need to unwind or be cheered up. (Like, after I watch Supernatural, Psych is the best thing to go to because it makes me forget that Sam and Dean are dead/dying/demons.)

I totally recommend it. I think it's one of the cleanest TV series out there right now, and honestly... how could you not want to watch it when this happens every episode?

It's on Netflix.

Why are you still here?

  2. Ha! I love your fangirly reviews of stuff. :) Psych is one of my fave TV shows too. Shawn and Gus totally crack me up, and I love Lassie and Jules and Henry.

However (oh man, I can't believe I'm doing this... *big sigh of regret infused with self-disappointment at the traitorous thoughts to follow*), I just started watching the 7th season (due to its FINALLY being on Netflix, and me finally/sort-of finding the time to watch it) and I'm really disappointed. I've only made it through the 4th episode, but so far they've totally fallen flat for me – they just feel different. I really hope that they get better, or I get less picky, or something, because I really want to enjoy this time leading up to THE END. I'm so glad that the finale was awesome. I NEED AWESOMENESS TO CONCLUDE GREAT SHOWS! Yes I do. :) Anyway, did you feel like season 7 was less funny and sort of weird? 'Cuz I really hope it's not just me. Give me hope, Treskie! ;)

    1. Yay! I'm glad you like them! lol.

................. OH YEAH. S7.... Yeah, season seven started off kind of weak, and dirtier than usual. I was worried and disappointed too. Um.... Let's see. I think after Deez Nups, it gets back to normal. I think s7 was the weakest season, but Right or Left Turn for Dead is when it goes back to being good again. Don't stress too much. All the episodes have one bit that I cracked up over, but yeah. THe first half of the season was kind of not the best. :)

    2. Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I wasn't going to give up on it or anything (because, IT'S PSYCH), but it'll definitely be helpful in persevering through these not-so-good episodes to know that there's a light at the end of this not-so-funny tunnel. :)

    3. Haha! You're welcome! lol. I was worried about s7 too, like... I didn't feel like I could watch it with the family without vetting it first, but yeah. Definitely goes back to being awesome, and I'm glad you weren't going to give up on it. :)

      SHAWN IS AWESOME AND SWEET

  3. The extent of how much I have come to love this show still surprises me. And you summed up all my feelings, except the finale ones, because I haven't seen it yet.

  4. Okay. This sounds... REALLY FREAKING GOOD. Oh, and have you heard of Pushing Daisies? They cancelled it after two seasons. :( But I think you would really like it!

And by the way... I passed on the Liebster Award to you. :) http://catholicteen15.blogspot.ca/2014/08/the-liebster-awardagain.html

    1. Oh, it is. It's so funny. It's one of the few shows I don't mind showing my dad, you know? lol. I HAVE heard of Pushing Daisies, and I've been tempted to try it, but if it got canceled,.... does it have an end or it a cliffhanger? XD

Oooh okay. I'll see if I can do it soon. ;)

  5. I LOVE THIS SHOW. It's rapidly like one of my favourites (though Supernatural is still THE BEST OF EVER...I like pain? Apparently??) and like I enjoy most of the shows I watch, but I can legit just watch an episode of this and laugh and NOT cry. Shawn is the best. I LOVE SHAWN AND GUS. Although they are soooo dumb sometimes and it's just hilarious. Magic Head. *snickers forever* But you're right about Jules. And Lassieter! (However you spell that. Whatever.) I love Lassie too! he was so mean but then he does nice things for Shawn and Shawn's just waiting there for the punch line. It's hilarious and wonderful. Also Shawn's dad! He's mean, but nicely mean. *happy sigh*

    1. I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY ABOUT THAT, BECAUSE LIKE, I WANTED YOU TO SO BAAAAAAAAADLY. Yeah, I think it'll always be one of my favorites, it's just so FUNNY. (... SPN just makes me cry all the time.)

      SHAWN IS SO FREAKING HILARIOUS.
And he and Gus have the weirdest relationship. They're stupid.

Jules and Lassie are aaawesome! Lassie and Shawn get to the point where they're friendlier with each other later on, and I like tat.

SHAWN'S DAD IS A BAD APPLE, OMYGOSH, I LOVE THAT MAN.

  6. I just started watching Psych and I love it! It seems like it's not as deep as other crime shows. Or it's more light-hearted. I can't tell.
It's awesome. It's hilarious and mostly clean. The characters are great. And the plot is wonderful.

    1. Oh it's lighthearted alright. I think there's only a few episodes that are intense. Shawn is hilarious. I really like how he and his dad's relationship progresses. XD
