One Year Ago Today--April 26th

Exactly one year ago today...

Maria, Katrina, Amy, and I landed in the Edinburgh Airport. There were a lot of security people running around informing us that we had to go through the international line! Like we were a bunch of idiots. (Which we were, the shorter line was going so much faster I think we ended up in that one anyway. lol) After that we went through a really long, really green corridor out to somewhere close to the baggage claim. Our friend, Jim, was waiting there for us, and it was really nice to see him again. :) We took a moment to wander around the parking lot while Jim tried to remember where he parked his car. It was really sunny and warm. (It's weird that Scotland was warmer than California....it was snowing when we left.)

The apartment we were staying at was really nice, and a really great deal because overall it cost about as much as a cheap motel...but it was a really nice apartment. See? It even had a welcoming basket of fruit in the kitchen... Och, such hospitality.

This was Amy and my room...I confess the SCARY BLUE PAINTING unnerved me. It reminded me of some sort of blue jellyfish/lava lamp/thing that was going to eat my heart while I slept. Okay, maybe not to that extent, but it's bad, yes?

The landlord was a very nice man, who insisted on showing us very thoroughly  around the place. He even showed us how to turn on the heater and...if we were finding it a bit to warm, we could....you know...turn it back down. Fancy that.

It was pretty disconcerting to think that when it was ten pm in Edinburgh, it was only two in the afternoon at home. At least....it was for me.

Jim showed us around a little bit, we viewed the outside of Edinburgh Castle, and decided to go on a tour of it the next day.

Then we went out for Chinese food and I tried... a banana fritter. It was... yummy-ish. I could eat it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Random Fact: Scotland traffic is very chaotic and millingish. At least to me. And everyone seems to be aggressive drivers. And I kept getting the driver's side confused with the passenger seat, because in Scotland, they're situated opposite, the driver sits on the right. And they drive on the left side of the road too. (I knew this already, but it's one thing to know it and quite another to experience it.)

     Oh yeah. I miss Scotland.

One Year Ago Today--April 25th

Exactly one year ago today…

My sisters (Maria, Katrina, Amy), and I boarded a plane to go to Scotland. We were on our way to visit a friend as well as a country, so that was a double awesomness. Also, I forgot that there are actually no pictures for this post because we didn’t arrive at our destination: the Edinburgh airport, until April 26th. (Yep, the flight is that long)

For the record, and you can quote me on this, SCOTLAND IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! IF YOU DO NOT VISIT IT AT ONE POINT IN YOUR LIFE AFTER READING THIS AND MY LATER POSTS, I WILL BE EXTREMELY IRRITATED! AND ANGRY! AND STUPIFIED! (Pardon me while my eye twitches in crazed agitation.)

I expected to be all excited to fly over an ocean, because… you know… that’s like… a big deal. But after the first initial: “Oooooh looky, water!” I got a bit bored. One can have too much water, you know.
I discovered, during the trip, that I hate with a passion airplane seats. Not. Designed. Well. Do you know how hard it is to sleep when your seat practically forces you to bend forward? (If you’re wondering why I didn’t just lean my seat back, it’s because I was too polite and didn’t want to disturb the couple behind me.) And airplane restrooms are awful. I only used on once before I learned my lesson, namely: Wait. This might be old news to you, but it was the first time I’d flown that I could remember…
I watched the King’s Speech, and The Voyage of the Dawntreader to pass the time. (not one right after the other, mind you, but over the course of about 16-17 hours. One can only listen to music and read a book when one’s mp3 player has batteries and one’s book is not finished.) In between that, I slept. Or attempted to. Mostly for the “sleeping” part, I leaned against the side of the plane and closed my eyes in an attempt to doze.
The stewardesses were really nice and almost succeeded in addicting me to cranberry juice. (that stuff is amazing, pepes.)
But in the end, all I really wanted to do was get there already. The anticipation really started to get to me and I actually began counting down the hours…..Waiting is a very hard thing to do. :)

Pictures!

     Five Random Facts:

1.) I really don't mind swearing, but blasphemy just infuriates me.

2.) "Tintin" is still brilliant even when you watch it loads of times.

3.) I'm trying to work myself up to washing our dog. He really freaks out when he needs to be washed.

4.) I can watch people sing live all day.

5.) Do not ever mention a Scot to an Englishman, or vice versa.

As you know, I watch the Hunger Games with my sister, and it inspired me to do this picture:

I think St. Teresa was a very clever lady.

Also, I probably won't be blogging again until the 25th, because I have decided to do a series of posts, (EVERY day! **Shriek!**) titled the "One Year Ago Today" set, in honor of the Scotland trip my sisters and I took one year ago exactly on April 25th. Stay tuned, because it's going to be fun! :)

I will never be cranky again----I haz discovered Pinterest.

Nothing is quite so funny as well captioned pictures. Seriously.

DO IT, SHERLOCK!

Our house could use this. :-O

I LOVE THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pictures don't stay where they're supposed to when I actually post it, so they look very haphazard.  I give up trying to fix it so they stay where I want them to, because I've been sitting here going, **preview. Go back and make changes. Preview... Adjust pictures. Preview. Fix pictures again. Preview...."OH WHATEVER!"**

Anyway, be honest in your comments. Did this post make you smile? Or even laugh? If not....I have serious concerns about your mental health. :)
