Eeek!

So, when my sister first signed up for NaNoWriMo a few years back, I was ho-hum about the whole idea. I was awed that she had the gumption to go for it.... I mean, 50,000 words is a lot. But um... yeah. There was no way whatsoever that I would consider doing it. I had a life.

By the time 2011 rolled around, I had gotten to the point where I enjoyed writing. It was fun. I therefore considered Nano.

Briefly.

Suffice it to say that when the deadline to sign up came along I'd decided "Noooooope. I have a life, remember? I don't even have a story to write for it!"

Ahem.

The beginning of October brought on loads of my bloggy friends/acquaintances talking about nanowrimo--why they were doing it/why they were not. And I was like, "Maybe I should try for it this year."

I vacillated wildly for a while doing things like:

I will!

I can't.

Should I?

What if I can't make it to 50,000 words??????

I will!

I don't know.................

Amy  solved the problem for me by coming over a few days ago and signing me up for me.

*SCREAMS*

So here I am. Freaking out. Don't mind me, it's just a malfunction of the nervous system. Happens all the time.

Luckily this time I have a basic outline and some potentially good characters which I think I can turn into better, substantially less flat characters.

Meet Monica:

minus the modern hair and plus some fantasy peasant clothes.

And Sir Dominic:

Same as Monica. Plus a sword and a very epic cloak.

I'm still not sure where I'm going with the story. Luckily most of my work tends to write itself. I'm one of those people who usually just writes down an idea and then revises about a billion times. :)

As it is, I am nervous.

I am psyched!

I am apprehensive.

I think this will be the kick I needed to buckle down and actually get some work done!

I am biting the inside of my mouth in agitation.

I'm excited!

November, dear. I am coming. Watch out.

After MUCH forethought

And having been thoroughly well versed on this particular subject, I have come to this conclusion.

Cool guys wear leather jackets.

And so I have compiled a list, in no particular order, of cool guys.

Brownie points to the person who can name every actor.

My point proven?

Clips of random proportions!

So, I am in a funk.

A funk I tell you!

A writing funk.

Er.... Excuse me while I go to look up what the word "funk" actually means.

Oh. Well, according to dictionary.com, "funk" is actually a state of depression or fear. Hmm. So maybe I'm not in a writing funk. I'm not depressed or afraid to write. I just don't feel like writing. Which is sad, because I'm seriously considering doing Nano this year. Ho hum.

So instead of writing, I'm going to share some of my recent youtube finds.

A polish flashmob singing One Day More. They're actually pretty amazing. :)

These guys are hilarious.

One of my favorite scenes from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It's been really stuck in my head recently.

I really do feel terrible about laughing at this poor model. But seriously? I find people falling hilarious.

I LOVE this song!

I think Scotty is awesome and has a fantastic voice.

And oh. I just remembered that Mimi also gave me the Liebster Blog award, but since I already got that, I'm just going to answer her questions.

1. If the floor randomly gave way beneath you, would you scream?
Oh yes. Defo. I'm a very vocal person.

2. Why are people obsessed with randomness?
*Looks sheepishly at blog title* Ummmm. Because randomness is awesome and interesting. So there! (I am not obsessed with it. I just happen to think that random and cool is better than not random and boring.)

3. Are you an arty person, or academic?
Artsy definitely. I do well academically too though. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but hey. It's not bragging if it's true right? Right? Heh.

4. If your friends jumped off a cliff, would your first instinct be "Hey, look! That's my friend!" Or "Hey, look! That's my friend!" (You can differentiate for yourself.)
I refuse to envision my friends jumping off cliffs. I mean really. :)

4. Would you prefer to be short of tall?
Short. I already am and I'm comfortable with that.

5. Have you ever experienced hail?
Oh yes. Frequently. Well...... not frequently frequently, but we usually get hail when we get rain.

6. What is the strangest thing you've ever done? (Includes instances of fighting a horse with a frying pan.)
Urrrrmmmmm. *think... think... think....* I used to sing really really over the top opera while playing badminton. I'd hit the birdie and then clasp my hands and sing, "OOOOOOOOOOOH MIIIOOOO BABIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINOOOOOOOOOOO CAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOO!" Whack-the-birdie "MIIII piace e bellllllOOOOOOOO Beeeeeellllllloooooooo!"
I usually stopped when people started staring.

7. Do fish have feelings?
'Scuse me, I need to go fetch Intellectual Me. *Treskie carries on a muttered conversation with herself* Intellectual Me says fish probably have feelings of the senses variety but are incapable of any human-like emotions.

8. When was the last time you surprised someone?
um. I need to do that again. It's been too long.

9. What was the last good book you read?
Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter.

10. If someone gave you a million dollars, what would you spend it on first? (Be honest.)
So many choices! I probably would have to consult with my sisters and friends first. I mean.... the possibilities would be amazing. :)

11. If the internet had a global breakdown, how severe would your mental breakdown be?

That is all for tonight. :)

God bless!

Doctor Who party tag!

Ahem.

I can't imagine why I forgot to add this to one of my recent posts, but... Natasha and Ashley are hosting a Doctor Who blog party! Which I thought was.... you know.... pretty cool. So I'm going to answer the questions in the tag, very nicely set up over at Natasha's blog. 'Kay?

1.)  If you decided to name your first born child after any Doctor Who character, male or female, who would it be?
I'm going to be realistic. I really like the Tylers, so, if my first born was a boy, he'd probably be Peter, and if it was a girl she'd be Rose.

2.)  What is your favourite colour of the Doctor's shoes?
D'oh. I like the red ones. I like red.

3.) Look around yourself and name the one thing that is TARDIS blue in your house!
*peers anxiously around the house* The socks box in our laundry room.... Is all I can think/see at the moment.

4.) If you could pick who plays the Twelfth Doctor which actor would you choose and why?

Simon Pegg! Because he could do it, and do it well.

5.)  The Doctor is going back in time again, which historical era should he visit?
To York. Before New York, or New, New, New, New, New, New, New, New, New, New, New, New, New, New, New York.

6.) Would you REALLY go with the Doctor in the TARDIS?
Time for me to face facts. I'm a coward, so unless he could say, "You will not get hurt. You will see your family again. You will not die." the probability of me going with the Doctor is about on par with me actually meeting him. :)

7.) Who's your favorite Doctor and why?
Sorry, David Tennant fans! I like Nine. I haven't seen Eleven yet, but I really liked Nine. He was awesome. The end.

Teehee! It's like a halo!

8.) Would you be afraid to spend Christmas in London?
Meh... No. 'Cause if anything happened the Doctor would fix it all. And besides, I'd be in Scotland anyway.

9.)  Do you look at an ordinary screwdriver and think 'this could be a bit more sonic'?
All the time. Especially when I have a lot of cupboards to put up.

10.) Angel statues, plastic mannequins, Christmas trees - what ordinary everyday object would you love to make an object of terror to Whovians were you Steven Moffat?
       Frying pans! Who knew, right?

11.) The TARDIS lands in your garden and the Doctor steps out. What is the first thing you say to him?
       PLEASE TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay. Realistically? "Eek! Get out of my garden!"

12.)  Who is your favorite actor who has played the Doctor so far and why?
Christopher Eccleston because I think he seemed more like a 920 year old Timelord.

13.) Have you seen any Classic Doctor Who? If so, which Doctor/episode(s) is your favorite?
No, I have not. But I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be this guy.

14.)  Which are the creepiest, scariest and all-out meanest baddies in all the Who-niverse?
Erm. The Weeping Angels and Cybermen. (Because I have not seen past the 4th season of Doctor Who I cannot name any baddies after it.)

15.)  Who is/are your favorite Companion(s) and why?
Rose Tylerrrrr. 'Cause she was really perfect as a Companion.

16.)  Did you cry more watching Doomsday or The Angels Take Manhattan?
I haven't seen the Angels Take Manhattan, so I'm going to say Doomsday.

17.)  What is your favorite quote from the show?
        "Fantastic!"
"Look at the hairs on the back of my manly, hairy hand."
"I'd call you genius except I'm in the room."
        "Oh, do you? Hallo!"

18.) Which Doctor (including all previous regenerations) would you most like to be the companion of, and why?
       Christopher Eccleston. See above.

19.) Which of the following are you more scared of, the Daleks, Cybermen, or the Weeping Angles?
Weeping Angels creeped me out. Daleks... would be so much more epic if they were less annoyingly EXERTIMATING!

20.) Who are some of your favorite guest stars in the series?
       SIMON PEGG!

Carrie Mulligan

21.)  What was your first experience with Doctor Who and how did you hear about the series?
I saw half an episode when I was babysitting and remembered thinking, "Wait! Hey! I know him! He's on The Seeker. He was the 'Witness my wrath' guy." And then our friends loaned us the first four seasons and there you go. Whovian.

22.) The Ninth Doctor said, 'Fantastic!', Ten said, 'Allons-y', and Eleven says, 'Geronimo'; what would you like to be the signature exclamation of the Twelfth Doctor?
       Cheers, mate!

23.) If you were trapped in an episode, which one would it be?
With my luck I'd go to the one library with evil, man-eating shadows.

24.) Which is your favorite episode with each Doctor (Nine, Ten and Eleven)?
Nine: The Long Game, Father's Day, and the Empty Child (both parts)
Ten: Tooth and Claw, The Girl in the Fireplace, Blink, Silence in the Library, and Midnight
Eleven: Haven't seen any yet. Soary.

25.)  After watching a certain Doctor Who episode, did you summon up the courage to try fish sticks and custard?
        See number 24.

Well, that was fun. :) Don't forget to join in!

God bless!

Picture Saturday--Character

Meet Rose.

She's the main character of one of my current WIPs, and she is... a very hard person to write. It's difficult to make someone sweet and standoffish at the same time. ROSE! I love ya, girl. But you really need to cheer up. Seriously... Life isn't all depressing is it? I mean, think about it: you have a great family and you just met Chris. And honestly? Chris is awesome, and you're lucky to know him. Lighten up, sweetie. Smile a little. Do it for your author, who is tired of rewriting you.

Alrighty! And now, for your pleasure, I bring you this baby, because I find babies laughing absolutely adorable and hilarious. And therefore.... Must. Be. Shared. :)

God bless!

The Liebster Blog Award!

The lovely Natasha awarded me:

Aww, thanks! :)

                                                       Rules!
1. You must post eleven facts about yourself.
2. You must also answer the eleven questions the awarder has given you and make up eleven questions for your awardees to answer in turn.
3. Tag eleven fellow bloggers
4. Notify them that you've awarded them
5. No tagging back
6. And the eleven blogs you tag must have less than 200 followers.

Right. Okay, so eleven facts about myself...

1.) I quote movies compulsively.

2.) I'm shy in the weirdest way. For example, I have the hardest time going into the grocery store by myself... BUT if someone irritates me, I can win a stare down with a complete stranger no problem.

3.) When I form opinions about something, man... I stick to them. I'm a very black-and-white person, things are either right or wrong and there is no grey area in between. ('Cept in rare cases.)

4.) I am so fond of Equilibrium, but I can't recommend it to many people because it's pretty... dark. (in case the cover didn't give that away) The fight scenes are way over the top, but it's by far better than the Matrix (which I watched with my brother and decided never to make that mistake again... Keanu Reeves is not a strong actor and the plot was lame.)

5.) I find bloopers or gag reels to be the best special feature on movies.

6.) I'm left handed when I write and draw, but do everything else with my right hand. Go figure, eh?

7.) I find people falling down absolutely hilarious. (Providing they don't actually get hurt. Then I feel bad for laughing)

8.) I fractured my left wrist in June when I was nine, and broke my elbow in two places that September. It was a sad, sad story. (And I was so angry when I broke the elbow because I had just gotten the cast off my wrist like two weeks before.)

9.) I type on an average of 62-65 words per minute. THANK YOU, MAVIS BEACON!

10.) I have over a hundred first cousins. No joke.

11.) I am secretly a porcupine............. in disguise.

Okay, now for Tasha's questions.

1.) What is your favorite season? (spring/summer/fall/winter)
oooooh. I like summer the best, but fall comes in a close second

2.) Do you watch more British TV shows or American?
Hmm. Well, we're pretty even when it comes to that. A lot of the time I prefer British to American because their humor appeals to me more. But overall, it's about even.

3.) What's your everyday hairstyle? A ponytail? A braid? A bun?
I vary. Braid, buns, and just leaving it down are my usuals.

4.) Do you sew most of your own clothes or buy them?
I avoid sewing as much as possible if I can help it. So the answer to that would be, I buy. :)

5.) In what year did Columbus sail the ocean blue?
Ooooh that's easy. Columbus sailed the ocean blue in fourteen hundred, ninety-two.

6.) Favorite screen/literary couple?
Natasha! This is hard! Okay... favorite screen couple, definitely the Braddocks from the Cinderella Man, or Rapunzel and Flynn's in Tangled.
Literary.... Oh, James and Lark's from Lark, and Peaceable and Barbara's from Sherwood Ring

7.) Which is your favorite/most read book of the Bible? (Not including Psalms or Proverbs ;)
Erm.... the Apocalypse. "And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars..." That's beautiful, no?

8.) Your favorite TV show when you were a child?
Oh, I liked Star Trek: the Original Series, my dad watched them a lot when he'd get off work. Good memories, people!

9.) Least favorite vegetable?
Greenbeans! Ugh, I can't eat the revolting things.

10.) Do you watch the Marvel superhero films? If so, which is your favorite super hero and why?
Yes. I watch them. They are AWESOME!
Of them, I really honestly cannot decide who's my favorite, they all have their moments of epic-ness.
BUT Captain America is my favorite hero just because he is the only one of them who is a true hero in my mind. He was a hero before he was hero material. Jumping on that grenade? C'mon, people. Who wouldn't love him?

11.) Do you think bow ties are cool?
I know that is a Doctor Who reference, but since I haven't seen that episode, I'm going to say, nah. Bow ties are only cool when worn by guys from the 'forties. Other wise I prefer:

Phew! That took longer than I was expecting. :)

Now, for the 11 questions for those I will award:

1.) Who's you're favorite musician and why? (Does not include singers this time.)
2.) Do you think the Beatles overrated?
3.) Did you ever want to be a Ginger?
4.) QUICK! PICK A NUMBER BETWEEN ONE AND TEN! Now, why did you chose that one? Why!? WHY?!?
5.) How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
6.) Who started the American Navy?
7.) What's your favorite music genre?
8.) Have you ever played baseball? (even in the backyard with friends works.)
9.) What are your top five favorite books? (because I know that I can never chose just one)
10.) What is your favorite accent?
11.) Do you know the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything?

And now for my awardees. :)

1.) Cat
2.) Rose
4.) Mel
5.) Mahri
6.) Marlene E
8.) Hilda
9.) Amy
10.) Sophie
11.) Anna

THERE! I did it! I managed to tag all eleven people! I haven't been able to reach my quota on these things the past few times. :)

Ooh, and as a random aside.... Did blogger eat anyone else's pageviews? I was almost at 4000 and I logged on to write this post and it said............ 4!!!!.

Bloggeeeerrrrr!!!!! How could you? Now I have to start all over!

And there.

I have ranted.

Goodbye.

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

Happiness, I've decided, resides in a hot cup of tea and banana bread.

Happiness is re-watching the first season of Sherlock, and marveling at how dear John Watson manages to keep his temper in check even though Sherlock is such a pill.

Happiness is knowing that Martin Freeman is playing Bilbo Baggins.

Happiness is a cozy house when it's cold outside.

Our house doesn't quite look like that, but.... Well you get the idea, right? =)

Happiness is knowing that your best friend is willing to go out into the cold, cold, cold, weather and take pictures with you.

SAMMI!

ME!

There was a random glass just sitting on that boulder. It was novel.

Happiness is having the time to work on your WIP and actually liking what you wrote.

Happiness is watching Basil of Bakerstreet in The Great Mouse Detective.

Happiness is maple leaves....

Happiness is listening to the Phantom of the Opera and attempting (vainly) to sing that high E that Christine hits so prettily.

Happiness is just being happy for the fun of it, and laughing because it feels good.

How 'bout you? What makes you happy? Anything special to report?
