Picture Saturday-- I contemplate the idea of a graphic novel

First of all, I want to thank everyone who commented on my last post: apparently my thoughts on my blogging skills made me seem somewhat downcast and discouraged.

So thank you all for being supportive!

I'm actually fine, guys. I was just genuinely curious as to why people follow me. But y'all are awesome for responding with such nice things!

Anyway.

No guitarists this week. I know, I'm a horrible person, but there you go. Can't draw it if you don't feel it.  As it is, at the moment... it's like I have no control over what my brain decides to draw. And at the moment, my brain thinks the only thing worth drawing is phantom. So I'm really sorry, but it's mostly Phantom this week. I swear, this stupid phase should be done soon! I'm just-- AGH! You can't really control what inspires you, you know?

Honestly, at this point, I could probably tell the whole Phantom of the Opera story, just through my fanart. Which leads me to the idea of drawing a POTO* graphic novel. It would be so cool! It would be such a giant undertaking. And I have no idea whatsoever how to graphic novel. (Yes, apparently "graphic novel" can be used as a verb, shhhhh.)

*darn you, Cait, and your potato comment

So yeah, I've considered that, and I'm toying with the idea. It'll probably get kicked to the wayside, but at least I thought about it, right?

Sorry if this post is a little rambly, I'm writing it kinda late and my brain is doing this shut down thing, which is very annoying.

I'm also cranky, because some of the pictures didn't scan so well, and I think I'm going to start ripping the pages out of the sketchbook to get better quality, and I hate doing that.

Right, let's get this thing going!

1.) I don't know what it is about Raoul, but that man just makes me all squishy inside. HE IS FABULOUS!

2.) Dude. All I Ask Of You is such a sweet song. *Thud*

^^^ this picture. WHY THE DARK CORNER, PRINTER? WHY?

3.) Remember that picture from last week that I was mad about? Still mad, but I OWNED it.

4.) RANDOM EPONINE INSERTION.

5.) She literally goes from, "lalala life is good" to "Life sucks and oh, by the way, I'm dying." I want to re-do Little Fall of Rain. I did it last year, but I think I do it better now. :)

6.) Aw yiss. I love this song so much,

7.) Random Katara. I basically slapped that one down as a warm up for phantom drawings. Did I get lazy with the water? Yes... yes I did.

8.) Because Christine is such a sad little cupcake, it makes me want to sing Wishing for class and make people cry.

9.) Apparently I was really in to the rooftop scene this week.

10.) Because, even though I'm all about that Raoul, 'bout that Raoul, no Phantom*, that bit where he's creepin' and hears All I Ask of You kind of breaks my heart a little.**

*see what I did there?
**The Phantom is the saddest of all the potatoes. I love him. I just love Raoul more.

11.) And finally, because Raoul is a hot potato.....

Yeah... I need a life.

Okay! I'm going to sign off, because I have to go to Mass in the morning, and I'd like to be awake for that.

*Favorite Phantom picture?
*Favorite Eponine?
*OH OH just randomly pick a favorite overall.
*Tell me I'm not the only one with obsessive problems.

I love you all!
Treskie out.

  1. So I saw your title for this post and my brain just went !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A graphic novel of any sort would be EPICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC. I might faint of epicness.

Favorite Phanart wassss the first one because... Christine's hair is gorgeous. I know that's a weird reason to like it but don't judge me.

Favorite Eponine was the first one because it was adorable.

She knows every word to every song and goes to concerts and fangirls like you wouldn't believe. She got my BROTHER obsessed with Taylor and he in turn got me obsessed with her. Before, I didn't like her, but I didn't hate her and NOW I'M PRACTICALLY LISTENING TO 1989 ON REPEAT!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!!! But yeah, that's my story... :)

  9. YES CAN YOU DO A GRAPHIC NOVEL ACTUALLY CAN YOU PLEASE

    Seriously Treskie my pal.

Like I think I've become desensitised to your drawings cause I read these posts every week and I'm like "yup those are Treskie's drawings" but if I just take a moment it hits me again how phenomenally talented you are and how you could really go very very far and will definitely have a career as an illustrator so, uh, yeah, write a book!

    In answer to your questions:

    * ALL OF THEM ALL OF THEM but especially 1 and 9 but really ALL OF THEM
    * 6 gosh I love that song and Eponine. (she does look a bit mentally unhinged in 4-6, though ... which is definitely one way of looking at things ...)
    * I'm gonna say 1 but yeah ALL OF THEM
    * YOU AREN'T DON'T WORRY! Mention "Skulduggery Pleasant", "Jaime Lannister" or "Richard Campbell Gansey III" anywhere near me and I'll probably erupt into a ball of flames. Not to mention my life-long, deep-rooted, never-dying Harry Potter obsession. At least you turn your obsession into beautiful art. I just slather and post a lot of things in all caps.

    1. EEEEEEEEEEEEEH I'M AFRAID I'M AFRAID OF COMMITMENT, AND THAT'S WHAT A GRAPHIC NOVEL IS!!

No, don't be desensitized! lol But yeah, I do that too, with people's art, like, "Yep, that's so and so" but like you said, when you look more closely at something, you're more impressed. At least I am. I get like, 'LOOK AT THAT PERFECT SHOULDER WHAT IS LIFE HOW DID THEY DO THAT AAAAAAH!" and it's quite annoying for me lol.
But aww, thank you! That comment makes me so happy. :)

*THANK YOU FOR NOT REALLY CHOOSING LOL.

*Yeah, I like On My Own better than I Dreamed a Dream. .... WELL EPONINE HAS ISSUES! lol. I love her. I am her.

*Apparently Christine's hair in #1 was a big hit lol.

      * GOOD THAT MAKES ME HAPPY. I've read the first Skulduggery aaaaaaaaaages ago when it first came out. It reminded me a little of Bartimaeus. I SHOULD REREAD IT. How many are in that series now? Jaime Lannister is GoT, right? OH GANSEYFACE. HE IS GONNA DIE AND OR RONAN IS GOING TO SACRIFICE HIMSELF FOR HIM AND THAT'S GOING TO KILL THIS LITTLE POTATO.
      You do art though....
Hey, I"m the queen of slathering and caps. THE QUEEN.

      XD

Yeah you should flipping reread it and thEN READ THE REST (there are nine overall) because they are PERFECT AND HILARIOUS AND-- see what I mean about the obsessive problem thing?
YES HE IS AND I'M IN LOVE WITH HIM. I'm not even joking. I love him so much.
AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH DON'T EVEN TALK ABOUT THAT. Maybe I just won't read The Raven King. Maybe I'll write my own version where everyone's happy. Ugh but I'm absolutely terrified. I'm both dying for it to come out and hoping it never will.

Well yes I do but not fanart. I should do fanart.

      YOUR MAJESTY.

    3. Mine too! OMG! lol.

Holy crap nine? zheeeesh that's a lot lol. ARE THEY SOUL RENDERING AND SAD THOUGH, THAT IS THE QUESTION.
lol I've never watched GoT WAIT IS THE THE PRINCE IN CINDERELLA?
..........I'M AFRAID OF THE RAVEN KING!!!!!!!!! SUCH FEAR, MANY SCARE.... i dunno, I'm a little afraid she's going to make Adam and Ronan a thing and if that's the case I couldn't recommend them anymore-- Kind of like Percy Jackson. *cough* BUT I"M HOPING SHE WON'T!!!!!!! I'm just nervous because that seems to be the thing to do these day.s.

  10. I like the Phantom one toward the end best. I'm stepping off a cliff into a pile of oh-no-you-didn't, but I never really liked Raoul... but then I've only seen the movie. The Phantom and his stage presence, though.

    1. The one on the roof? Yeah, I do too, I really liked how that one turned out, even though my hand was black with charcoal when I finished lol. It's okay, people who like Raoul are very few and far between. SO. .... BUT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ONLY WATCH TEH MOVIE, BECAUSE THE MOVIE WAS RUBBISH AND HADLEY FRASIER MAKES RAOUL EXCESSIVELY ATTRACTIVE. *ehem*....

The Phantom is such a sad character though, even though I don't think it could have ended any other way, the end always kills me because the Phantom really does redeem himself by letting her go, and it's A SAD FREAKING STORY.

  12. A graphic POTO novel? That sounds pretty awesome!

I really like all of these. Choosing favorites is a little hard right now.

I don't know who Eponine is. But I really love her pictures. Especially #5. And that fact that it seems that she likes books. Books are good.

Um, um, Phantom favorites. Probably #8, even though I do really, really love #2, #9, #10, and #11. Oh, that was almost all of them. It's just these are some of the BEST scenes. I'm with you about that rooftop scene. I definitely feel for the Phantom here. I don't ship him with Christine (he's got some issue to work out before he thinks about girls, just saying). But I'm not sure if anyone with a heart could not help but feel bad for him. THINK OF ME IS LIKE THE BEST SONG IN THE WHOLE- OH MY GOODNESS, I LOVE THAT SONG SO MUCH! Ahem, yeah that's a good song.

Also, the last picture! Just- Just- that scene where Rauol is up against the bars of the Phantom's lair (his name is Erik, with a 'k' I think. . . but I never knew that until I started reading up on it, was I just not paying close attention to the movie or was his name really not mentioned!?). I can just really see Rauol's desperation in that scene. I know the Phantom's response to what Rauol says is what normally sticks out to people, but I hardly noticed it the first time I watched because of Rauol. He knows that he probably cannot save Christine, he knows that both she and he at that moment is at the mercy of the Phantom. He'll try to do something, but he knows that it won't work unless the Phantom lets it work. Unless he lets them leave and it was like Rauol's last plea toward Erik's humanity. Plus, the rhythm of the his words and music at that moment. It's just really striking.

    1. I KNOW I'M JUST NOT SURE I'M UP TO THE CHALLENGE!

(Secret? I love it when people have a hard time choosing, it makes me dance in delicious glee.)

Eponine is from Les Miserables and she might actually be my favorite character in it. She's a sad character. lol.)

Aaaah! I'm so glad you like #8! #8 Was one of my favorites this week! Haha. Nice> XD Thank you for being with me on the rooftop scene, it's like the key point of the play, where everything has it's "ooooh this is important" moment. And exactly, It's not that I don't like the Phantom, it's just that he's not a good match for her,and he has some serious mental issues. lol.
AAAH I LOVE SINGING THINK OF ME! THE CADENZA AT THE END IS SO FREAKING FUN TO DO!!!!

Yaaaasssssss, that last picture.... (And yeah, the Phantom's name is Erik, which I know because a few of my sisters read the book. He's also called Erik in Love Never Dies, {but that musical kinda stank} And I don't know, I've never really sat down and watch the whole movie all the way through. I just tend to call him Phantom, because in the musical itself, even in the booklet, he goes by Phantom and not Erik.)

And, my dear, thank you so much for saying that!!!!!!!! THAT right there is exactly why I think Raoul is better for her than the Phantom. It's not that the Phantom didn't love her, it's that Raoul loved her realistically. And that whole bit where he comes down to save her, "Do what you like, only free her." It's basically him telling the phantom that he can do whatever he wants to him, as long as Christine goes free, and it's just awesome. (But I love that you mentioned him reaching out to the phantom's humanity, it makes me happy that you noticed that.) In fact, everything that Raoul says in during the Final Lair hurts a little! Like the bit where he just gets quiet and he's like, "I fought so hard to free you.' AAAAAAGH Raoul is the best potato.

      Delete
    2. "Raoul loved her realistically." YES! Yes, so much. The Phantom (I do like him, but yeah, he needs help at the moment, not romance) only held fantasies about Christine. His whole world was unreal. He himself was larger-than-life. Maybe it had something to do with his mental issues. But he didn't really understand love, which I cannot say is complete his fault.

I've been wanting to read the book. I heard the author, I think Gaston Leourx, was a detective writer. He was to France what Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was to England and Poe to the US. Which makes sense after watching the old silent film of POTO (I can't believe I sat through all of that).

(I've been considering writing a POTO retelling. Which is the only reason I tend to call the Phantom, Erik. Also, I have this weird impulse to call Christine, Chrissy. . . Also, I LOVE Meg so much. In my head, after the Phantom gets better, him and Meg end up together *cough*)

      Delete
    3. *knuckle bump for agreed Phantom choices* Exactly, he wasn't even sort of in a good place for a relationship. His whole world was pretty much under the opera house, and that's no way to live. : (
And no, not understanding love wasn't his fault, but it doesn't change the fact that he *didn't understand* and he thought it was okay to manipulate people in the name of love lol.

WAIT WHAT!? He was a detective writer??? OMG I SHOULD TRY THAT.... The really really old one ? Ah, I should watch that and see how it is.

(Oooooh you totally should because A) retellings are fabulous and B) PHANTOM. Awww Chrissy. Can you imagine Raoul calling her Chrissy, it would be adorable. lol. ...I KNOW MEG IS VERY UNDERRATED. Like SERIOUSLY. But yeah, it would take several years of therapy to get the phantom to a place where he was ready for a romantic relationship. :)
