Behold the geek!

Hehe.

Has anyone but me noticed that T-shirts are way  overpriced when they have any sort of logo on them? It's ridiculous! Normal, unadorned T-shirts are maybe five dollars? But add a single logo.... like a TV show symbol or, and the price jacks up to like fifty dollars a pop.

Who does that?!

It's a freaking T-shirt for crying out loud! Sheesh!

So, I came up with a solution to this-- well technically, someone on pinterest did, and then my cousin did it, and I stole the idea.

One word.

Bleach.

Bleach can make some of your fangirly dreams come true!

Right. For this project you will need:

*A dark colored T-shirt, or hoodie, or whatever you want transform into geeky awesomness. (I got mine for $1.99 at Michaels)

*Bleach. (Maybe a touch watered down.) And something to spray it with. (NO laser spraying! A nice, gentle fuzzle will do perfectly. I used a Windex container.)

*A template of the logo you want.

*Straight pins. For pinning the logos. Duh.

RIGHT!

So you're going to want to cut out your template and pin it flat to the shirt.

Grab your spray bottle of bleach, and take your shirt outside (or somewhere, where if the bleach gets out of control, nothing will be damaged.)

Aim and spray. (I put a piece of paper behind the.... the.... the neck hole (I know it has a real name, I just can't remember it right now), so the back of the shirt wouldn't get bleached.)

Unpin the templates, and WATCH THE MAGIC HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's dead easy. It's cheap! And It's fast, so that's lovely.

I need to figure out one to do for Supernatural. (I don't want to go around wearing a Devil's Trap symbol on my front. That could be awkward to explain.)

I made them yesterday.....Guess what I'm wearing today?

You deserve to be happy. My gosh, wow! Amazing artwork you did on those shirts. It hasn't crossed my mind to do something like that, only iron ons.

    3. :D

Iron ons, I've considered, but they never stay nice, so I like the bleach better.

    1. Good! Uhm.... no. Once the bleach is on, it takes the color out, so there is not undoing the process.

  14. THAT IS SO COOL!! I am totally going to try that once I get all the stuff and stop procrastinating :P Just letting you know there are three pictures that don't show up for me, but they aren't vital to the tutorial so don't worry about it if I'm the only one complaining....
Have you made any more of those? And how much water do you use to water it down?

    1. I KNOW!! You should, it saves a lot of money for geeks. lol. Three pictures? They might be the gifs I did. Grrrrrr.

Um... I've made one before, (it was a practice one,and I didn't like the shape of the shirt.) but these two are the only ones besides that one. You don't NEED to water down the bleach, it just makes it a little less strong. Um... I'd say a couple tablespoons in half a cup of bleach should do it.

    2. Ok thank you!
I have the shirts and now I just have to cut out the stencils and actually get to making these!
Ooh, I'm excited.... I am SO GLAD that you shared this idea so I didn't go out and buy a bunch of expensive shirts :)

    3. Oh! And can I share this on my crafting blog? With credit to you of course.

    4. You're welcome!! :D I can't wait to see your shirts! I know, I'm glad you liked the idea enough to try it, because it really is super easy. Make sure you water down the bleach, though. No holes!

Oh, and yes, you can totally share this on your crafting blog. That will be fun to see. XD

  15. What a clever idea! They look very cool!
I actually bought an expensive (well, $27) Doctor Who tshirt. It says "Allons-y" in a really pretty swirly font and has the sonic screwdriver on it. But now, whenever I wash it or wear it, I'm kinda freaked out something will happen to it.
So, again, I love your idea!

  17. I feel lied to. For so long I've been drolling over geeky T shirts and been sulking because they are so much and wishing it didn't cost so much to make them, and all this time I could do them myself. This new power, I don't know what to do with it. My wardrobe is no longer safe.

Where did you get the cut outs?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Aw. I got so tired of looking at T-shirts, because they're T-SHIRTS and should not cost so much, I don't care if they do have logos on them. So this is like.... wonderland for me. LOL.

Um, I just googled them. I think it was something like, "TARDIS template" and "Avengers logo"

  18. Oooh! I shall have to try this! :D

You don't want to walk around with a Devil's Trap? I don't know why! *sarcasm* XD Hey! You could do some sort of outline/template of the "KAZ 2Y5" Impala license plate. :) But yeah....the devil's trap would be a tad awkward to explain to anyone who knows the sign.... ;)

Thanks for the nifty t-shirt idea. :)

    1. As soon as the bleach is mostly dry, then it's fine. :D You are going to want to make sure that you water down the bleach a bit though, because if you don't, depending on the shirt, you might get holes. :D

    2. Thanks so much! We're actually planning to use bleach pens to trace on patterns, but thanks!
