Squeak!

Colored lights upon the tree
Rocking horse and snow fairy
Gathered round the fire at night
Carols sung by candlelight
Hayley Westenra Christmas Morning

I don't know what it is about this year that's making me so excited for Christmas.

Don't get me wrong, I'm always excited for Christmas. But most of the time, we don't really start decorating until December 6th or 8th. And that's normally okay. Normally I feel like that song:

Save a little Christmas
for Christmas.
Save a little spirit,
put some love away.
Think about the shepherds
in fields as they lay.
And save a little Christmas
For Christmas Day!

And I still feel like the day after Thanksgiving is too soon to start decorating and being all Christmasy.

But for some reason, December first rolled around, and I was filled with total and  utter Christmas zest. I wanted to decorate ALL the things! I wanted to sing ALL the carols! I wanted to bring out ALL the lights!

There's a Johnny Mathis song called "Need a little Christmas" that reminds me of me right now:

Haul out the holly;
Put up the tree before my spirit falls again.
Fill up the stockings,
I may be rushing things, but deck the halls again now!

Setting up and decorating our Christmas tree is a long process, because we tend to spread it out over the course of a few days. (Setting up, yes. We have a fake tree. It's a very nice face tree, but it lacks the invigorating essence of pine.)
So I was put in charge of setting it up with the help of my little sisters and nieces.

They were so excited.

Disturbingly excited.

Bella was quite overcome.

And then, about fifteen minutes into it. My dad, my brother, and Amy joined in the fun.

For we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute,
Candles in the window,
Carols at the spinet.
Yes, we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute.
It hasn't snowed a single flurry,
But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry;

That finished, the next day was Saint Nicolas' Day, and we all put out our shoes with much ceremony and tradition. The little kids always love Saint Nicolas' Day.

Since the Christmas tree wasn't done, we put up the lights and garland later on.

So climb down the chimney;
Put up the brightest string of lights I've ever seen.

And today! Today we got our first real snow of the season. (I'm actually glad. I was ready for snow.) It wasn't that much, only a foot and a half or so, but it was icy. Luckily we have a naughty donkey snowblower. My daddy loves it.

After we shoveled, several of us older girls crowded into Kat's new beast of a Land Rover, and drove over the mountain to go Christmas shopping.

That was fun.

We finished up the day with stew. STEW!! And put the ornaments on the tree.

For we need a little music,
Need a little laughter,
Need a little singing
Ringing through the rafter.

I think Christmas trees
are like seeing magic

And we need a little snappy
"Happy ever after,"
Need a little Christmas now.
Need a little Christmas now!

Johnny Mathis Need a little Christmas

Cheers and God bless!

Merry Christmas!

  1. How fun!! And beautiful snow. Aw I wished it snowed here. Oh, did you know there are green sticks that smell like pine from Home Depot? My dad bought some last year for our fake tree. It smells good but not like the real thing. Still, it's something.

You all did a beautiful job on the Christmas tree. We haven't put ours up yet, LOL! But we did finish our Christmas shopping after thanksgiving. I do have a Christmas tree of my own in my room that my mom bought me this year. I'll post a pic of it on my blog. i'm sure my mom will let me upload that pic.

    1. It was fun! And yeah, snow is beauteous. I just really hate shoveling.
I did know about the green sticks. We just never get them for some reason. :D

I think we did! We normally wait awhile too, but this year we decided to to it earlier. lol. We always wait a bit to do Christmas shopping. It's weird, isn't it?!

Oooh you should TOTALLY post a picture of your little tree. That's awesome! I want to see it.

I love the picture where the lights are wrapped around you!

  4. I did one of those trees once. It threw me off a chair and beat me up and someone else had to take over and left me to unstring the lights. My clumsiness always gets me boring jobs when I muff the death defying ones.

SNOW! "Do you want to build a snowman?" (That is one of those double references, because we've step beyond single ones at this point. Oh yeah!)

Have you ever seen The Pink Panther movies?

I'm starting to be able to tell all of you apart! I am so proud of myself! It is my new goal to be able to know who is who before I invade.

FAIRY LIGHTS!!!!! YOU FIGHT THOSE FAIRIES, TRESKIE!

    1. Hahahahah!! That's what Amy and Maria's tree was like the first time we put it up. But the one we have, we've had for years, so we pretty much know how to do it without much fuss. lol. They make fake Christmas trees so tricky to be put up.

SNOW~!! I GOT YOUR DOUBLE REFERENCE! lol. Actually, I kinda want to build a TARDIS.

I saw one of the originals, but I want to see the new ones. .... Maybe I can talk my sisters into watching it with me. XD

YAYYY! We do look a lot alike, so I'm proud of you for being able to tell us apart. *pats back* "You're awesome"

FAIRY LIGHTS!! I WILL FIGHT THOSE FAIRES!!!

    2. Trickstey trees. Nasty tricksty treeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!

*High fives on the double reference.* We are cool now. A TARDIS! That's great! I tried a Dalek once but the snow wasn't sticky so now I have to wait till spring. We should build some when I come if there is snow then.

The new Pink Panther movies aren't as good as the old ones. The old have some funny moments in them - I don't know why I mentioned it now. I had a reason...but oh well.

      "I know, I am."

And....I had more to say but I forgot. So now I have nothing.

    3. They have a mind of their own. XD

Double references should be a thing. We should make it a thing. lol.
Our snow right now isn't sticky enough either. It's too cold. We need to melt it or something. lol.

Ah. I've heard that about the Pink Panther movies. Darn it, now I want to re-watch it. lol.

      "I know, I am." that's a quote but I can't place it.

  5. Sounds like a lot of fun! We don't put up our decorations until Christmas Eve to make it more special. Maybe I'll do a post on our St. Nicholas Day experiences after my exams are done. ;)

    1. It was.

Really? That's cool. I don't have enough self-control to wait until Christmas Eve. lol.

Oh you should! I love hearing about other people's St. Nicholas Days.

    1. Oh me too... ;D

The whole family always gets involved. We're a very "DO IT ALL TOGETHER" sort of family, which is nice! (most of the time. lol.)

The tree brings all the decorations together, doesn't it?

Hah! I'm glad someone got that. One of my cousins said it first, and I cracked up so much. lol.

  7. I thought all Americans had real trees! We have a fake tree, too. And it's not even as full as yours. :) Christmas trees are fun. Even better when there are presents underneath, eh?

    1. Real trees are expensive, even here, where evergreens grow like weeds. That and the fact that they don't last as long has turned us into fake tree users. We used a real one a long time ago.... I barely remember it. lol. Ours is a very nice fake tree, isn't it?? lol.

Oh WAY better when there are pressies underneath. ALWAYS.

  8. Awwww, thankee kindly!!

Haha, no there's always a lot of snow where we live. :D
But ooooh. Growing up near the equator and then moving to America must have been a crazy change. About where in America? You near the midwest? I'll *bet* you're cold! I'M COLD! And I've lived here my whole life! lol.

Oh we will. You too! :)
    God bless
