One Year Ago Today--April 26th

Exactly one year ago today...

Maria, Katrina, Amy, and I landed in the Edinburgh Airport. There were a lot of security people running around informing us that we had to go through the international line! Like we were a bunch of idiots. (Which we were, the shorter line was going so much faster I think we ended up in that one anyway. lol) After that we went through a really long, really green corridor out to somewhere close to the baggage claim. Our friend, Jim, was waiting there for us, and it was really nice to see him again. :) We took a moment to wander around the parking lot while Jim tried to remember where he parked his car. It was really sunny and warm. (It's weird that Scotland was warmer than California....it was snowing when we left.)

The apartment we were staying at was really nice, and a really great deal because overall it cost about as much as a cheap motel...but it was a really nice apartment. See? It even had a welcoming basket of fruit in the kitchen... Och, such hospitality.

This was Amy and my room...I confess the SCARY BLUE PAINTING unnerved me. It reminded me of some sort of blue jellyfish/lava lamp/thing that was going to eat my heart while I slept. Okay, maybe not to that extent, but it's bad, yes?

The landlord was a very nice man, who insisted on showing us very thoroughly  around the place. He even showed us how to turn on the heater and...if we were finding it a bit to warm, we could....you know...turn it back down. Fancy that.

It was pretty disconcerting to think that when it was ten pm in Edinburgh, it was only two in the afternoon at home. At least....it was for me.

Jim showed us around a little bit, we viewed the outside of Edinburgh Castle, and decided to go on a tour of it the next day.

Then we went out for Chinese food and I tried... a banana fritter. It was... yummy-ish. I could eat it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Random Fact: Scotland traffic is very chaotic and millingish. At least to me. And everyone seems to be aggressive drivers. And I kept getting the driver's side confused with the passenger seat, because in Scotland, they're situated opposite, the driver sits on the right. And they drive on the left side of the road too. (I knew this already, but it's one thing to know it and quite another to experience it.)

     Oh yeah. I miss Scotland.

  1. I loved the cobblestones. And the stone flats. (Treskie, NOT apartment. FLAT!)

  2. Ooh, nice flat! But the painting is very scary ...

Scottish drivers are aggressive and millingish? Really? I find American drivers CRAZAY, and frightening ... at least, New York drivers definitely are! And it is always very disconcerting to go somewhere where they drive on the wrong side of the street. I experience this in Europe and America. It is unnerving.

    1. Hehe, re-reading these posts makes me homesick....And I like to think that I've gotten better at blogging since then. Hehe.

YES THEY ARE!!! lol. I got used to it, though. I dunno, maybe it's just because the traffic is so different where we live, that it seems chaotic when we go somewhere else. lol.
